Interestingly, the study showed that the community benefits of volunteering were independent of wealth and social class. Observers reported that even a relatively poor community that volunteers can perform better in terms of health, life satisfaction, crime and education than a relatively affluent community that does not. The Northeast Missouri MRC roster includes physicians, allied health professionals, EMTs, paramedics, nurses, mental health professionals, CERT team members, and pilots. If you have a medical background, including prior military experience, consider joining and using your experience to help others. There are many benefits to joining the MRC: training, informational programs, networking with other professionals, and the satisfaction of volunteering your time to help others. Membership in the Northeast Missouri MRC unit isn’t just for medical professionals: support staff members are absolutely critical during a disaster or public health emergency. Help will be needed with records management, organizational skills, logistics, transportation, and a multitude of other tasks if we are mobilized.
